I really want to say how much I enjoyed these stories! I was surprised to find out that Juan is John! I have read most of JHA's books and follow him on Goodreads for a few years now. He, John or Juan, gets better each time I read a new story. He has become one of my favorites and when I find out a new story is being released,I have to get it as soon as I am able. These loosely intertwined vignettes had an extremely wide range of emotional effects on me. Some were sweet with angst and love and ended with a very creepy, eerie and yet could relate to the chronic suffering that drove the character of Ashton. Unfortunately, it is too common to be subjected to the hate that permeates part of our society toward any other human who is not within the narrow definition of what is accepted to be the only way to be. Now,it appears to be exported from the haters in the USA and making gay people fair game to torture and kill. The immediacy of the current events makes the author's work even more poignant. I believe he has the talent and ability to weave in and out to touch happy and not so happy, but real emotions that a lot of people have experienced or at least be able to relate similar one's. I was delighted when I saw John H. Ames released a book outside of his series. More so, when I found out it was a collection of stories. These stories I feel show the depth and range of John's creativity with his writing. To be honest this has been a great book to go back to and read when I was undecided on what to read next. The stories we in no way short, but in no way too long. Book Two - Spirit Indestructible was my favorite, although another high school based story with a variety of new characters. There is a wholesomeness to the way John writes about this age taking the innocent into not so innocent of scenarios as they deal with the struggles that come along with being a teenager and in addition to the bullying that often happens to anyone who steps outside what is considered “the norm.” Perhaps my favorite part of this book was the imagination and originality for the storylines and plots that take place in all three.
“I wanted him to look at me. I wanted to see those beautiful eyes, but all he did was turn to face the window and blankly stare outside.”

This book includes three different stories in one book! I loved them all but I think the second one Spirit Indestructible was my favorite! I won’t go into too much detail, so I don’t ruin it for anyone. I just loved the uniqueness of each story! It will grab you by the shirt and yank you into your kindle! So worth the read!
