The characters were developed but had limited emotions within the story. Some parts were hard to accept like building a 8 to 10 foot cinder block wall around an entire town in about 2 months. Not even with skilled labor would that happen and this gang leader did it with starving, weak, unskilled towns folk. I like the story a lot, the plot moved right along even though bad decisions were made by most characters. Which happens when hungry, tired and stressed out. I really enjoy this author's writing ans various stories he comes up with. It was a very short story and I think adding more character development on the emotions side and adding more scenes would have help lengthen the story. The final battle scene was too short. The story has a sheriff's deputy being shot in the head and fall down right in front of Mila and the sheriff and later towards the end of the story the sheriff states, "we have a couple wounded with minor injuries". I guess the sheriff didn't like that deputy....the over story was excellent and I'm glad he ended the story with just two books.Product details

Good plot, a nice twist for a change. Some proof reading may have made for a slight improvement, but overall worth the $2.99

I really enjoyed reading this series of books. Each book made me want to continue to the next. This last book was exciting, fast paced, and enjoyable. I really like the fact that for once I knew the area that an author is writing about. It made the storyline more realistic to me.
Like many series I have read lately, the story is more like an episode than a complete book. That said, this second book in this series continues the story of a group of survivors of an EMP strike in upstate NY. It reads well and kept my interest. I will read the third book.
Just finished the second book in this series that I started last night. Once you start it you will find it is hard to put down. Great prepper book. I believe more and more people are becoming preppers with the way things are happening around us. Great work Roger Hayden.
Time to start book 3.
I wanted to love this series but........it fell short in the end. There should have been an epilogue at the end of Book 2 (the final series). I felt that the story was cut off.
Spoiler alert - don't read if you haven't read the book yet. The ending was nice but it felt short of how the town rebuilt itself, how the people survived, how the wall came down. It just needed one more chapter or even a long paragraph. I walked away from this series unsettled. It's as if the last chapter was ripped out of the book and I'll really never know the ending.
This is book 2 of 2. Both books were an enjoyable read. The characters were well defined. The main characters are survivalists, and when an EMP strikes, they get the chance to test their skills. There was only one thing that seemed odd to me, the description of the next town's citizens had them wearing mis_matched ragged clothes. Since it had only been a few months since the EMP struck, their clothes should have still been good as new. Small details count. The survivalists hometown has been taken over by criminals, who kidnap their children. Continual action, no boring moments.
